End Of Year Reflection
This year I learnt how to do more complicated math than last year.
An important decision I made this year was choosing my friend group to work with.
One goal I accomplished this year is to be more unnecessarily kind to all people.
This year I tried to be a better person by being kind to each and every one of my classmates.
My favourite memory from this year was when I performed in the Kids 4 Kids Choir in November.
The funniest thing that happened this year was when the teachers did a surprise dance for our End Of Year Celebration Concert.

Macaroni Cheese - Narrative
Reflection
I was learning to write a narrative.
A narrative is a fiction story where the main character has a problem of some sort, and the problem gets bigger and bigger until the main character finds a solution to it.
I found this activity tricky because there were a lot of things I wanted to add, but there wasn't enough space for it, and because I have done a lot of stories, but not really finished them, so this was tricky because I had to finish it.
My next steps are to write a different narrative.

Elapsed Time Maths Activity
Reflection
I was learning to say exactly how many years, months and days between two dates.
I could/couldn't find the correct times.
I found this activity easy/tricky/hard because
My next steps are to say exactly how many years, months and days there is between bigger and more complex dates.

Treacher Collins Syndrome - Wonder Activity
Reflection
I have been reading the novel, Wonder, by R.J. Palacio.
The main character, August Pullman, is claimed to have a face deformity.
It is called Treacher Collins Syndrome.
In this activity we have been researching this particular condition, and writing what we learnt in here.
I found this tricky because Treacher Collins Syndrome is a very complicated condition, and there was a lot to read about it because it is so complex.
My next steps are to research another condition/disease and do this again but with the chosen one instead.

Wonder Acrostic Poem - Kindness
Reflection
I am learning about acrostic poems and kindness.
In this activity I had to create my own acrostic poem about kindness.
I was able to write a sentence for every letter of the word - the sentence had to start with one of the letters of the word and it had to be about something to do with kindness.
I found this a little tricky because there were two n's and two s's as well, so I had to think of two for those letters.
I got a bit of help from my teacher with thinking of the other 'n'.
My next step is to do another acrostic poem for a longer word.

Wonder Poster
Reflection
We have been reading the book, Wonder, written by R. J. Palacio.
On the cover of this book it has an abstract representation of the main character, August Pullman.
In this activity we were able to make our own abstract picture of ourselves on a website, using the same technique as Ted Carpenter (the illustrator of Wonder) used while making the cover and inside pictures in Wonder.
I found this easy and fun because I like customizing characters and people, and I have had a lot of practice with it.

Wonder Part 5 - Grammar and Vocabulary Challenge
Reflection
I am learning about grammar and vocabulary.
In this activity I had to fix one of the character's writing by putting the correct punctuation and capitalizing the write words.
I was able to write the meanings of the different vocabulary words and match them to the sentence that it originally came from.
My next step is to do another similar follow-up, but with harder and more complicated words.

Character Comparison - Jack Will vs Bella
Reflection
I have been learning about comparing characters from a book. Here I have made a Venn Diagram to show the differences and similarities between one of the characters in the book Wonder, and one of my own friends.
I was able to write down the differences and similarities between Jack Will from Wonder, and my own friend, Bella.
I found this a bit tricky because I haven't made many Venn Diagrams in my life, this is only one of the 4 I have done.
My next steps are to add more facts and details to the next Venn Diagram I create.

Compare and Contrast - Blackbird and Tieke
I was learning about New Zealand birds. I was able to compare and contrast a blackbird and a tieke. I found this easy because there are a lot of differences and similarities between a blackbird and a tieke. My next step is to compare more than two things.
The Big Dig - Clearing the Manawatu Gorge Slip
Reflection
I was learning to identify and describe what the author wanted us to feel, think about or see. I was able to understand what the author was trying to make me think when he was writing this article.
I found this activity tricky because there were a lot to read in the article and I couldn't really remember it all. My next step is to start using websites and equipment to help me answer the questions, like a thesaurus, dictionary, or internet searches.

Alphabet Symmetry Challenge
I am learning about lines of symmetry. I was able to recognize all the lines of symmetry in the letters of the alphabet.
I found this easy to do because some of the letters were obviously not symmetrical, or they could look more like a shape than a letter - and shapes are usually symmetrical.
My next step is to learn about rotational symmetry.

My Speech 2019
Reflection
I have been learning to write a persuasive speech.
I found it challenging trying to think of an idea on what to write about, since I only had two days to create my speech.
Something I learnt was that it's actually a lot harder to write a decent speech than I thought. (But how am I to know what a decent speech is - mine isn't one.)
I felt surprisingly nervous when presenting my speech to the class but it felt relieving to get it over with when I was done.
My next step is to add more interesting language like onomatopoeia.

Converting Improper To Mixed Fractions
Reflection
I am learning to convert improper to mixed fractions. I found it easy once I got the hang of it, but when I first started converting I found it quite tricky and challenging. My next step is to practice doing these fractions faster.

Information Report
Reflection
I am learning to write an information report. An information report has to have a beginning, middle and conclusion. It needs to include facts, and be written in the present tense. I found this easy because I listened really well to instructions and I remembered what to do when I needed to. My next step is to add more detail and facts when I'm writing an information report.

Fact or Opinion
Reflection
I have been learning the difference between facts and opinions. A fact is a true statement coming from a reliable source of information. An opinion is what a person feels or thinks of a subject. I know something is an opinion when I see opinion signal words like 'ugly' and 'beautiful'. My next step is to find more ways to recognize a fact or opinion.

10 Different Sentence Types
Reflection
I have been learning to write a variety of sentences to use in my stories to make them more interesting for my readers. My favourite sentence type was the Paired Double because it gives a lot of information in just one sentence. A sentence I found tricky was the Stop-and-Dash because you have to come up with three adjectives for one subject. My next step is to use a variety of interesting sentences in my writing.

Making Predictions about a Text
Reflection
I have been learning to make a justified prediction about a text based on the cover and blurb. We read a novel called Treetop Treasure. I think my prediction was accurate enough because it was in the forest and Marrick and Jessie were being chased by poachers.

ANZAC A-Z Challenge
Reflection
I have been learning to find and summarise information. We have been learning about ANZAC Day. Something I learnt while doing this activity was how important the ANZAC wars were to us as kiwis. Something I found interesting was how bad life was in the trenches for those poor injured soldiers.

Statistical Investigation
I have been learning to use the statistical enquiry cycle to carry out an investigation. My investigation was what everyone's favourite fruit is out of the optional answers. I was surprised that so many people chose berry! I now know how to successfully display a graph on a Google Sheet. My next step is to try displaying a different type of graph.
