Year 4 Reflection

Reflection
This year I learnt how to multiply by nines and fives very fast.
One goal I accomplished this year is writing an explanation.
This year I tried to be a better person by helping out others that need it.
An important decision I made this year is trying out for the choir.
My favourite memory from this year was when I went to the choir concert because it was really fun and my parents saw me.
The funniest thing that happened this year was Mrs Prendergast crawling on the ground to turn her phone alarm off at LockDown.

Poster Go Honey Bees - Celeste W.

Reflection
In this activity I was learning to design a poster to tell everyone to protect honey bees, how to do it and why. I enjoyed making this poster because it was really easy and fun because I made one before this one and it was hard but now I know how to do it so it's not as tricky. Next time I should read the book more carefully so that I have more information on bees.

Poster - How to Take Care of the Honey Bees

Reflection
I was learning to create a poster telling people to protect bees. I have only made a poster once. I think I did well in making the font and writing easy to read.

Venn Diagram - Differences and Similarities

Reflection
I was learning to do a venn diagram about two native New Zealand birds. It was hard to find interesting facts about the two birds I chose; the morepork and the fantail. I helped a buddy to do this activity. I learnt a lot of facts about the fantail and the morepork like a morepork can turn its head almost a full 360 degrees!

Dragon Defenders - Adverbs Activity

Reflection
I was learning about adverbs. It was tricky to think about how dragons do things like move, bite, fly and everything a dragon does because dragons aren't real. I listened to feedback from my teacher and that helped me to improve my sentences. Next time I should do better sentences in the first place instead of having to check my work over and over again.

I was learning to skim and scan the text to find information.

Explanation Writing - How You Can Grow Lettuce Yourself

Reflection
I was learning to write an explanation explaining how to do something. I found it easy but it took a while to write and I used the example to give me a little more of a description. I think I need to work on using more topic words when I am explaining something like this.

Summarising - Robert the Rat

Reflection
I was learning to summarise a chapter of the book I was reading in only sixty words or less. I enjoyed looking through the book to see where the topic words and key sentences were because I like reading books I have already read a couple of times. I found it easy to find the topic words and key sentences because all I have to look for are things that are important in the chapter. I still need to work on summarising because it is a little hard.

Robert the Rat - Comprehension Activity

Reflection
I was learning to answer a range of comprehension questions. I enjoyed looking back in the paragraph because it made me understand the story more. I found it easy to find the answers but found it a little tricky to explain why I think that.

End of Year math challenge

Reflection
I was learning to multiply numbers by other numbers. I enjoyed thinking of what the answer was because I enjoy thinking of the end of term. I found it tricky to multiply the amount of days by six. Next time I should try to explain my working out better.

EPS School Values Sorting Activity

Reflection
I was learning to sort choices into the correct value.
I enjoyed thinking of what goes where because I like thinking of doing the right thing.
It was a little tricky to sort them because some seemed like they are part of several values.
I didn't need to be helped by a buddy or help a buddy to do this activity successfully.
I will try to work on the value Respect because I think I need to be more respectful when in class.

Food Chain

Reflection
In this activity I was learning to make a food chain with the animals I had. I learnt that every living thing has to eat something else and sometimes it is other animals and insects.I also learnt that hawks eat other birds, birds eat spiders, spiders eat aphids and I learnt what aphids are.I found this activity easy. I helped a buddy to do this activity because he was finding it tricky.

As Smooth as Silk

Reflection
It was tricky to find the answers in the book.
The book was interesting but a little confusing.

Journey Back in Time

Reflection I was learning about language features and how to write a narrative poem. I enjoyed writing a narrative poem. I found tricky trying to write it like a story and a poem. Next time I should use some more adjectives and rhyming words.

Reflection
I got stuck on the question that asked me what I thought the author wanted me to feel, see and think.
I enjoyed reading the book and doing the activities.

Analogue and Digital Time

Reflection
I am learning to tell the time in blocks of five minutes. I learnt that there are different ways to tell the time depending on whether it is an analogue clock or a digital clock. I thought it was easy to tell the hour and minutes. My next steps are to think more about what happens on an analogue clock after the minute hand goes past the six.

I am learning to make connections to myself, to other texts and the wider world.

I learnt a little more about marine life and our environment.

I found making the video tricky because there were so many noises in the background.

Next time I should make more connections.

Incredible Insects

Reflection
We are learning to answer comprehension questions by checking in the book for the answers. I enjoyed searching for more information on the internet about the insects. I found easy looking for the answers in the book. Next time I should research for more information.

Reflection
In this activity I had to tell the difference of the living things and the non-living things.
I enjoyed thinking of whether or not they were living things.
I found helping two buddies easy and fun.
Next time I should look at the pictures more carefully.

Haiku Poem - Caterpillars

Reflection
I am learning to make a haiku poem about a bug or insect.
I learnt a lot about bugs that I did not know about before but I know now.
I enjoyed helping a buddy with this activity.
I found thinking of my 5's syllables easy but the 7's syllables was hard.
Next time I should try to add more detail to my haiku poem.

Grey Angels

Reflection
In this activity I had to look in the book and answer the questions.
I learnt about the nurses in the war and what they did for people.
I enjoyed talking to a buddy about our answers and seeing if they were similar.
I found looking up the words in the glossary easy.
Next time I should make sure my answers are correct and make sense.

What is a habitat?

Reflection
In this activity I had to think of what a habitat is and write it in a padlet.
I learnt lots of information about habitats that I did not know about before.
I enjoyed thinking of all the things that I could write about on my padlet.
I found working with a buddy easy.
Next time I will try to help someone else besides my partner.

2 & 3 digit place value activity

Reflection
I was learning to solve 2 and 3 digit problems using place value.
I enjoyed adding the tens, hundreds and ones.
I found doing the word problems a bit hard.
My next steps are to work on adding the tens to the hundreds.

Soldiers on ANZAC Day

Reflection
I was learning to use strategies to make my writing more interesting.
I learnt to make a slide for A Moment in Time.
I enjoyed thinking of the onomatopoeia to put in my writing.
I was able to use a simile, onomatopoeia  and interesting adjectives.
I found thinking of my ideas a little bit tricky.
Next time I could try to use these strategies in other writing.

Place value

Reflection
I learnt how to put numbers in the place value houses. I enjoyed writing the answers. It was easy to figure out the answers. Next time I should practice my hundreds houses.

Te Tuhi Trip

Reflection
I learnt how to draw symbols that represent my life.
I enjoyed drawing them.
I thought it was tricky to have to copy off of my original paper.
Next time I should try to do it the same.

Linking Ideas

Pepeha Skim and scanming

Reflection I was learning to make a pepeha. I enjoyed writing it. It was tricky to skim and scan. My next steps are to work on my skimming and scanning.

Winning the Bledisloe cup

Reflection I learnt about the Bledisloe cup and how it was won. I enjoyed answering the questions. It was easy to look for the answers in the book. Next time I should try to actually read the questions more carefully so I can answer them correctly.

Room 14's favourite transport

Reflection
I am learning to conduct a simple statistical inquiry.  I enjoyed the part where I wrote down the favourite transports.  It was easy to draw the tally chart.  Next time I might try to memorise who I've asked or not. That was a bit tricky.

Bio Poem

Reflection We are learning to write a bio poem. I learnt a bio poem is a poem about yourself. I found it easy writing the poem on a planning sheet. I enjoyed making the slide. Next time  I might try to fit the sentences on the lines.

Reflection We were learning about cause and effect. I found this easy because I have done this before. I enjoyed this activity. Next time I could write longer sentences,

Welcome to my Year 4 learning blog.  This year I am in Room 14 and my teacher is Mrs Prendergast. I enjoy writing.  This year I am looking forward to art.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
