Writing a recount
We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.

Making pizza
Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas.
Sequencing and retelling my story
I am learning to retell my story. I read “The Rollercoaster Ride” and then I had to put the pictures in the right order. It was tricky because I had to think about the right picture and remember what went first. I am proud that I got this right.

Telling the time
We are learning to tell the time. We made watches today. It was fun. First we wrote the missing numbers onto the watch. Then we decorated the watches. Next we drew on a little hand and big hand. We chose our favourite time of day. Mrs Bovill recorded us reading our watches.
It is tricky to draw the little hand. I am proud that I did it all by myself.

Skip counting in 2's
I am learning to skip count in 2's. I had to put the counters on all the 2's. I am proud of my counting. I am learning to skip count so I can count quickly. It is tricky to skip count when I get to bigger numbers. Next, I could learn to skip count in 5's or 10's.

Kandinsky flowers
Room 4’s masterpieces are inspired by Kandinsky’s painting ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’. We really loved how Kandinsky experimented with the use of colour. Our paintings are our own experiments with colour and inspired by Kandinsky’s painting above. First, we had to choose our favourite primary colour to paint our background with. We then blended two primary colours at the top and bottom of the page to create a secondary colour and an interesting background for our own circles. If we used a warm background, we needed to try and use cooler colours for our circles. We really like our paintings because viewers can decide whether our circles are flowers in a field, balloons in the sky or lollipops in a shop!! We love using our imagination.

Describing words
I am learning to use describing words to make my story exciting. I am so proud that I can use describing words and that I am trying my best. I am proud that my story makes sense. It can be tricky to sound out describing words. The next steps for me might be to read my story again and add more describing words. I could look at pictures for ideas of describing words and read more poems and books.
"Soft and shiny are describing words."

Compound words
I am learning about compound words. I watched a video about putting compound words together. After the video, I had to match two words together. Some of the words I made were "rainbow" and "outside". I am proud that when I kept trying I got it and I tried my best. It is tricky to try and figure out which ones went together. Sometimes I get these words confused with contractions. Next time, I could look at the blue words and the red words and read them out loud to see what words can go together.

My scooter skills story
This is my published recount about when I brought my scooter to school for a scooter skills clinic. I had to write a story about what I learnt or liked. I am learning to use capital letters at the start of my story and at the start of a new sentence. I am proud when I remember to use a capital letter in my story. It is tricky remembering where to put it sometimes. Next time I could try using a full stops in my story too.
I can join sets to 5
I am learning to join two sets together. I had post the letters into the right letterbox. I had to add the two numbers together. I am proud that I could know the answer straight away. It was not tricky for me. Next time, I could try the game where the numbers add to 10.
Root words and word endings
I am learning to identify root words and their different endings. I had to circle the ending of the words. The ending of “looking” is “ing”. Other word endings I can see in my reader are “ed”, “er” and “s”. I am proud of how I circled the endings of the words. It is tricky to circle the ending and not the other letters.
Celeste: It was easy for me because I found the ending part straight away.

Illustrations help me read
I am learning illustrations help me read new words. I can look at the pictures to give me clues. It is tricky to read long words, so I can look at the illustration and then look at the word again. I am so happy when I can read a new word.
"I can look at the picture and I can point to the word. I know the word is 'crab'." Celeste.

Using our word of the week
I am learning to write the word ‘can’ in our stories. I wrote about learning. It can be tricky to sound out words and letters that have the same sounds like 'c' and 'k'. I am proud of thinking about my story myself. The next step for me might be to remember my finger spaces.

Counting and forming a set of objects
I am learning to count and form a set of objects from 1-13. First I chose a space background. Then I wrote the number and the numeral. Next was my favourite part - choosing the stickers. Mrs Bovill helped me type the sentence. Then I typed my name.
It was a little bit tricky to get the right number of stickers. I had to keep counting. It is tricky because sometimes I forget what way the number faces. I liked choosing the stickers for my poster.
Mrs Bovill is now going to print all of our wonderful posters so I can sort these and then use them to help me count down backwards like a rocket countdown.
